Chelsea have been tipped to make a move for Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez, with former Villa striker Darren Bent suggesting that the World Cup winner could be tempted to swap the West Midlands for west London.
Martinez, who helped Villa secure Champions League qualification last season, is currently tied to a contract at Villa Park until 2029.
However, Bent believes that if Villa fail to repeat their top-four finish, Martinez may consider a move to a bigger club.
“I wonder if Aston Villa don’t get back in the Champions League… could he go?” Bent told talkSPORT.
“The fact is he could play for almost any team he wanted to. Chelsea could get him.”
Martinez would undoubtedly be a significant upgrade on Chelsea’s current goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, and the Blues have shown a willingness to spend big on top talent in recent transfer windows.
However, prying Martinez away from Villa Park will not come cheap, and Chelsea will likely have to pay a premium to secure his services.
