The University of Kentucky (UK) proudly celebrated the academic achievements of 116 student-athletes during its May 2025 Commencement ceremonies, held on May 9 and 10 at Rupp Arena in Lexington. These graduates represent a diverse array of sports, including basketball, football, track and field, and more, highlighting the university’s commitment to excellence both on the field and in the classroom.
Celebrating Academic and Athletic Excellence
Among the 116 student-athletes graduating this spring and summer, 14 have earned master’s degrees, and one has achieved a Doctor of Pharmacy degree. This cohort’s accomplishments contribute to a total of 149 student-athlete graduates for the 2024–25 academic year, including those who graduated in December. UK Athletics continues to demonstrate a strong commitment to academic success, boasting a 92% NCAA Graduation Success Rate and an overall GPA of 3.405 among scholarship student-athletes.
Rajon Rondo: A Notable Graduate
A standout among this year’s graduates is former NBA star Rajon Rondo. Originally joining the Wildcats in 2004, Rondo left after two years to pursue a professional basketball career, where he achieved significant success, including NBA Championships with the Boston Celtics in 2008 and the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020. Now, at 39, Rondo has completed his degree through UK’s post-eligibility program, which supports former student-athletes in finishing their education .
Commencement Ceremonies at Rupp Arena
The May 2025 Commencement ceremonies were held over two days, accommodating more than 4,200 graduates across various colleges within the university. The events celebrated the hard work and dedication of students from diverse academic backgrounds, reflecting the university’s broad educational offerings .
