After a historic 2024–25 season that saw Auburn reach the Final Four and capture the SEC Tournament title, the Tigers face a significant roster overhaul. With several key players departing and new talent entering the fold, head coach Bruce Pearl has the challenge of maintaining the program’s elite status. This early preview examines the projected lineup for Auburn’s 2025–26 men’s basketball season

Auburn bids farewell to several standout players: Averaged 17 points and 9 rebounds per game, earning First Team All-SEC honors. His decision to enter the NBA Draft leaves a significant void in the frontcourt.  Known for his defensive prowess and leadership, Cardwell’s departure marks the end of an era. He became Auburn’s all-time winningest player during the 2024–25 season.  A seasoned guard who contributed significantly over the past three seasons, Johnson’s transfer to George Mason leaves a gap in the backcourt. ( Transferred to Michigan, Donaldson’s departure further impacts Auburn’s guard depth.

Additionally, Aden Holloway transferred to Alabama, and Jaylin Williams graduated. These changes necessitate a strategic rebuild for the Tigers. A defensive standout and scoring threat, Jones averaged 9.1 points per game and was named a semifinalist for the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Award. (A versatile forward, Johnson’s experience will be crucial as Auburn looks to fill the void left by Broome and Cardwell.A promising forward expected to take on a larger role this season.

These returning players provide a solid foundation for the upcoming season.

Auburn has bolstered its roster with several impactful transfers:: A sharpshooter from Georgia Tech, Kelly averaged 13.9 points per game and has already made a significant impact in his debut season with Auburn. A forward from SMU, Hudson brings experience and depth to the frontcourt.senior guard from Furman, Pegues adds veteran leadership and backcourt stability.

These additions are expected to contribute immediately and help fill the gaps left by departing players.

Based on current roster compositions and player roles, the projected starting five for Auburn in the 2025–26 season are:

A five-star recruit and the nation’s No. 1 point guard in the 2024 class, Pettiford is expected to lead the offense. A dynamic scorer and shooter, Kelly will provide perimeter scoring and spacing.SF: Denver Jones (6’6″): Known for his defensive prowess, Jones will also contribute offensively. A versatile forward, Johnson will be pivotal in both scoring and rebounding: Expected to step into the starting center role, Hudson’s experience will be valuable.
