The Auburn Tigers baseball team faced a challenging 2025 season, concluding with a 27–26 overall record and an 8–22 mark in Southeastern Conference (SEC) play. This marked the first time under head coach Butch Thompson that Auburn missed the SEC Tournament. In response, the Tigers have been active in the transfer portal, both to address roster gaps and to bolster their lineup for the upcoming season
On the offensive side, Auburn secured several impactful transfers. Shortstop Cooper Weiss, previously with Miami (Ohio), brings a strong defensive presence and offensive prowess, having led his team with a .303 batting average, 12 home runs, and 17 stolen bases last season. Outfielder Mason Maners from Jacksonville State and infielder Christian Hall from UAB also joined the Tigers, adding depth and versatility to the infield and outfield positions. Additionally, catcher Lucas Steele transferred from Samford, where he posted impressive numbers with 16 home runs and 51 RBIs, providing a significant power bat to the lineup.
In the pitching department, Auburn added several arms to strengthen their rotation. Cade Fisher, a left-handed pitcher from Florida, joins the Tigers after a season in the bullpen, bringing potential as a weekend starter. Samuel Dutton, formerly of LSU, offers experience as a starter and could contribute significantly to Auburn’s pitching staff. Other additions include right-handed pitchers Carson Myers from UAB and Mason Koch from Creighton, both expected to compete for starting roles.
However, the Tigers also experienced departures through the transfer portal. Outfielder Chris Stanfield, who had been a consistent presence in the lineup, transferred to LSU. Other notable departures include pitchers Zach Crotchfelt and Cam Keshock, as well as infielder Gavin Miller and outfielder Kaleb Freeman. These losses have opened opportunities for incoming transfers to step into significant roles
As Auburn prepares for the 2026 season, the influx of transfer talent aims to address the team’s previous shortcomings and enhance their competitiveness within the SEC. The combination of experienced transfers and returning players sets the stage for a promising season ahead.
