Cowboys enter the race for a game-changing weapon as their offense looks to keep up with the defending champs

With the start of free agency approaching on March 12, teams will be looking to strengthen their rosters in a way that gives them a better idea of what they need in the upcoming NFL Draft in April. The order of the draft could still change due to trades involving players, as was the case with Deebo Samuel, who is expected to leave the San Francisco 49ers for Washington in exchange for a fifth-round pick, according to sources. Another player of similar value is Cooper Kupp, who the Rams have announced will no longer be with the team. Players with even more value at the position include Davante Adams and DK Metcalf.

The latter could easily be worth a first round pick and has been linked to several teams, although he has one year left on his contract and the Seahawks have not openly stated that they are willing to trade him. However, I can see a team taking the risk and making a trade similar to the one for A.J. Brown, Metcalf’s former college teammate at Ole Miss, when the Titans accepted the Eagles’ 18th overall pick prior to the 2022 season. Since then, Brown, along with DeVonta Smith, has been a key piece in making the Eagles the reigning NFL champions and helping them reach another Super Bowl in 2022. In my opinion, it would be a mistake for the Seahawks to let Metcalf go, just as it was a mistake for the Titans to part ways with Brown.

As I mentioned earlier, Metcalf’s name has been making the rounds this past week, with the Packers emerging as serious contenders, followed by the Cowboys. It is possible that the Seahawks are simply ready to move on from Metcalf, who has one year and $32 million remaining on his contract, while shifting their focus to Jaxon Smith-Njigba as their No. 1 receiver after his promising performance last season. The Seahawks could also take a player in free agency like Chris Godwin or Amari Cooper, because obviously I would say Tee Higgins, but the Bengals have used the franchise tag on him again for the second consecutive season.
