Miami Dolphins Restructure Pro Bowl Pass Rusher’s Contract: Report

On Wednesday, FOX Sports NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that the Dolphins agreed to a reduced base salary with Bradley Chubb. He can still earn the full amount from his contract, but now it will be through incentives.

Locking in Chubb at a lower cost is a significant win for Miami. The standout pass rusher missed last season with an ACL injury, but before that, he was one of the league’s most disruptive defenders.

In his last healthy campaign, the former two-time Pro Bowler recorded 73 tackles, 11 sacks, six forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, two pass deflections, and seven stuffs.

Those numbers highlight the impact he can have when fully fit. If Chubb successfully rehabs and prepares this offseason, the Dolphins will still have a premier edge rusher in their lineup.

His contract structure now reflects a fair balance—he gets paid if he performs, but if injuries persist, Miami won’t be overcommitted financially. He still has three years left on his deal after signing a five-year contract in 2022.

Beyond Chubb’s potential return to form, this move also helps the Dolphins in free agency. The additional cap space gives them flexibility to address key needs, particularly on defense, while also shoring up an offensive line that needs serious attention.

To compete at a high-level next season, Miami must maximize every dollar. Even if Chubb returns at only a fraction of his previous level, he can still be a valuable piece for Miami.
