Notre Dame staying in close contact with one of the most interesting recruits in the 2026 class, and things could be getting serious
There may not be a more unique and interesting player in the 2026 recruiting class than Wheaton (Ill.) South Elgin tight end Gavin Mueller. Notre Dame football fans got their first introduction to Mueller last offseason when he camped in South Bend, and dazzled with some of his testing numbers. That was before he had ever played a down of high school football. At that point, the Fighting Irish staff was in a bit of wait and see mode. Mueller was clearly a talented athlete, which wasn’t overly surprising considering his basketball background, but everyone still wanted to see how good of a football player he was. Mueller’s junior season was a huge data point.
Back in February, Mueller received what he had been waiting so long for, an official offer from Notre Dame. It’s no surprise that the Irish were included in Mueller’s top eight schools list along with Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Arkansas, Colorado, NC State, Wisconsin, and Purdue. With the intention of committing sometime in June, the next couple of months is going to be very important. That includes school visits, and Muller has already set another to Notre Dame on April 9. If Mike Denbrock and the Irish staff pushes, they feel like the team to beat. Whether they do or not remains the question.
