Talaysia Cooper updated to game time decision for Lady Vols basketball in SEC Tournament

GREENVILLE, S.C. — Lady Vols basketball has updated Talaysia Cooper’s injury to a game time decision, per the SEC student-athlete availability report.

Cooper suffered an apparent ankle injury late in the second quarter of Tennessee’s loss to Georgia on Sunday. She played 12 minutes before the injury, scoring two points and picking up two steals.

Tennessee head coach Kim Caldwell addressed the injury postgame.

“I don’t know anything more than you know,” Caldwell said. “I know she rolled her ankle, and I haven’t seen her since.”

Per the SEC, a designation of questionable means an athlete is “uncertain to play due to injury or condition”. It is the middle of five designations that can be given on the availability report.

Cooper’s status was initially listed as questionable in a report issued Tuesday at 8:10 p.m. The Lady Vols were required to issue an update by 90 minutes before Wednesday’s 11 a.m. tip.

The last player for Tennessee to be listed as questionable was Zee Spearman prior to Tennessee’s game against Vanderbilt. Spearman was upgraded to available in the game day update.

Tuesday, Cooper was named to the All-SEC second team and defensive team. Playing in all 29 of Tennessee’s games, she averaged 16.7 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. The redshirt sophomore also dished out 3.2 assists per game and is tied for the conference lead with three steals per contest.

In Tennessee’s 16 SEC games, Cooper scored 16.1 points per contest and earned 47 steals. Her 11 blocks in conference matchups led Tennessee.

Lady Vols basketball will take on Texas A&M at 11 a.m. Wednesday on SEC Network. Sam Gore and former Florida player Steffi Sorensen are on the call.

If Tennessee wins, Thursday’s game against Vanderbilt will tip off at the same time and also air on the same network. All SEC Tournament games during the first two days air on SEC Network.
