Trey Smith, an offensive lineman with the Tennessee Vols, is candid about the Chiefs’ defeat in Super Bowl LIX.

Former Tennessee Vols offensive lineman Trey Smith suffered the first Super Bowl loss of his career earlier this year when the Kansas City Chiefs came up short against the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX.

Smith, who was franchised tagged by the Chiefs earlier this month, joined the Up & Adams Show this week and he was asked about how he’s handling Kansas City’s loss to Philadelphia.

The former Vol admitted that he didn’t play his best game against the Eagles while also pointing out that the loss is serving as motivation for the 2025 season.

“It’s painful,” said Smith when asked about the loss in Super Bowl LIX. “It’s definitely something that you don’t want to experience, getting that close, working that hard, and coming up short. But I think at the end of the day, we use that as fuel and motivation for next season. I speak personally for myself, I know that wasn’t my best performance. So for me, I’m hungry to show back up next season [as an] even better player, a new player. And put my first step forward in a positive manner, to make sure that I’m doing everything I can for my team, for us to be successful at the end of the day.

“We all have the same goal and objective. We all want to win that Lombardi Trophy and lift it up at the end of the season. And we realized we got everybody’s best shot last season. And at the end of the day, we have to be on our A game, week in and week out. But I use it as fuel and motivation for next season, for sure.”

Smith, who also told Adams that he hopes to remain in Kansas City longterm, will attempt to work out a contract extension with the Chiefs before the deadline later this summer.
