Is this the Best Duke Basketball Team in Over a Decade?

The Duke Blue Devils have put together a phenomenal season, winning the ACC regular season, which was capped off by a big victory over the rival North Carolina Tar Heels on Saturday night.

The Blue Devils ended the regular season with a 28-3 record, including a 19-1 mark in conference play. Duke went perfect at home, winning all 17 games at Cameron Indoor Stadium this season.

While Duke has won more than 28 games overall in recent seasons, when including the NCAA Tournament, reaching this level was statistically the program’s best season in more than 10 years.

What is most interesting about this iteration of the Blue Devils is the youth on the roster. Duke’s top two scorers are both true freshmen, who will likely be one-and-done talents who make their way to the 2025 NBA Draft this summer. Freshman phenom Cooper Flagg averaged 19.4 points per game this season, followed by Kon Knueppel with 13.7 of his own. That duo combined for nearly 40% of Duke’s points per game on average, which is incredibly impressive.

Being headlined by inexperienced players in the NCAA Tournament could be a challenge, but the Blue Devils’ young players are flanked by experienced guards who can help run the offense, with players like Sion James and Tyrese Proctor in the fold.

Duke will, without a doubt, be a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, with a chance to be the top overall seed, depending on how the SEC Tournament unfolds over the next week.
