The Los Angeles Lakers have been electric since landing Luka Doncic in a massive Feb. 2 blockbuster trade.

Although the franchise has lost its last three contests, it’s played well enough to remain in contention for the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference.

However, regarding long-range shooting efficiency, Los Angeles hasn’t been stellar this season, shooting 35.7% from deep under JJ Redick.

Once the 2024-25 campaign concludes, the Lakers may consider swapping Austin Reaves for a Denver Nuggets star wing and bolster their production from three-point land.

Michael Porter Jr. has set the nets on fire in the big leagues from Day 1. Porter regularly shines on the hardwood as a shot-ready three-point sniper who’s made a living moving without the ball and flaunting his flawless release.

The Missouri product shot 42.2% from downtown as a rookie and hasn’t looked back since, connecting on at least 39.7% of his triples during four of his last five NBA campaigns.

Porter, a 2023 NBA champion, averages 18.2 points and 6.9 rebounds per game in Year 6, shooting 50.6% from the field and 39.9% from long-range.

Reaves is undoubtedly the more versatile perimeter-oriented asset. Still, acquiring a near-automatic three-point sniper in Porter would give Los Angeles a necessary boost from beyond the arc.

However, Denver was adamant about retaining Porter amid NBA trade rumors this season, making it challenging to envision the organization changing its mind barring a late-season collapse from the skilled forward.

The Lakers should still closely monitor Porter’s situation in Denver as the playoffs rapidly approach.
