Update on Grant Nelson’s injury: Will the Alabama forward participate in March Madness?

As of March 18, 2025, Alabama forward Grant Nelson’s participation in the upcoming NCAA Tournament remains uncertain due to a knee injury sustained during the SEC Tournament semifinal against Florida on March 15. Nelson exited the game in the first half after experiencing discomfort in his left knee and did not return.

Following the injury, Nelson underwent evaluations, including a visit to a knee specialist. The assessments indicated no severe structural damage, such as ligament tears. However, significant swelling and soreness persist, rendering his status for the tournament opener questionable.

Alabama’s head coach, Nate Oats, addressed Nelson’s condition during the “Hey Coach” radio show on March 17. He expressed optimism about Nelson’s recovery but acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding his availability for the first-round game scheduled for March 21 against Robert Morris. Oats stated, “Not sure he’ll be ready by Friday. We’re hoping at a minimum he’d be ready by Sunday with the possibility of maybe Friday.”

Nelson has been instrumental in Alabama’s success this season, averaging 11.8 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. His versatility and presence on both ends of the court have significantly contributed to the Crimson Tide’s performance.
