Santi Cazorla hints at a possible return to Arsenal as he nears retirement.
Cazorla began his football journey at eight with Oviedo, forming a strong connection with the club that endured through his stints at Villarreal and Arsenal.
Joining the Gunners in 2012, he quickly became a fan favorite, earning the man of the match award on his debut against Sunderland. One standout memory was his hat-trick in Arsenal’s 5-2 victory over Reading in December of the same year.
During his six years at Arsenal, Cazorla delivered critical performances that helped the team secure two FA Cups and two Community Shields.
Recently, the midfielder returned to north London after seven years to watch Arsenal, now managed by his former teammate Mikel Arteta, in a match against Ipswich Town.
With La Liga on a winter break from December 21 to January 4, Cazorla’s visit was a treat for Arsenal fans. Before the match, he was interviewed pitchside.
Discussing Arteta, Cazorla praised him, saying: “He’s doing an amazing job. It’s tough competing with Manchester City last year and Liverpool this year, but Arsenal must keep pushing. I believe in them. I hope Liverpool loses a few games, and Arsenal wins the league.”
When asked about a potential return to the Emirates, he responded: “Yes, why not? Arsenal is my home. I love the club and the people. We’ll see in the future. I’m not sure what role I’d take, but definitely something in football because that’s my passion.”
Cazorla watched on as Kai Havertz scored the winning goal in a 1-0 victory, propelling Arsenal to second place, six points behind Liverpool.
As an assistant manager, Cazorla could bring inspiration and creativity to Arsenal’s midfield, which has sometimes struggled under Arteta to break down defensive teams, as seen in their draws with Everton and Fulham.
Arsenal recently faced a significant blow with Bukayo Saka sidelined for months after hamstring surgery. The winger had been in excellent form, contributing to 22 goals, including 13 assists, before his injury.
Fans would undoubtedly welcome a player with Cazorla’s creative flair to help rescue their season. Having played 180 matches for Arsenal, any contribution toward a league title would only enhance his legendary status at the club.
